[HOW TO] Archive DVD to hard drive/Archive DVD movies with VIDEO_TS structure/VOB file structure

The short guide is written for movie fans and audiophiles that would like to copy DVD to hard drive with EXACTLY the same audio and video quality, i.e. archiving DVD collections to hard disk.

Required hardware: PC with DVD-ROM optical drive, and commercial DVDs
Required software: Blu-ray Ripper, or DVD Ripper
Trial download: Blu-ray Ripper/ DVD Ripper

Step 1. Click “BD/DVD ROM” to load DVD to the DVD Ripper. Have your computer networked so that the ripper can access key for cracking the copy-protections. Protected movies (with CSS) will not play properly on a computer or HD media player. When a DVD is loaded, the CSS protection is hacked. DVD ISO/IFO can be also loaded to convert to VIDEO_TS/VOB file structure.

Step 2. Click the “Full Disk Copy” button to start archiving DVD to hard drive in VIDEO_TS structure. It takes 5-10 minutes to archive a DVD-5 to hard drive and double time to archive DVD-9 (dual layer DVD).

After conversion you click “Open” to find DVD digital copy in VIDEO_TS file structure. There are multiple .vob, .ifo and .bup files.

Media players that support DVD menu (DVD navigation)

Playing VIDEO_TS with PC:  VLC Media Player (freeware)

Playing VIDEO_TS with HD media player devices: Viewsonic VMP70, Lacie Classic HD, Popcorn Hour NMT, Netgear NeoTV 550, etc.
